PROFILE LAND AREA POPULATION TRADE IN GOODS The Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) is a subregional initiative that aims to accelerate “economic transformation” in less developed areas in these countries towards a seamless, progressive, prosperous, and peaceful subregion with improved quality of life. The IMT-GT comprises of 10 provinces of Sumatra, Indonesia (Indonesia-GT) 1 ; 11 states in Peninsular Malaysia (Malaysia-GT) 2 ; and 14 provinces in the southern region of Thailand (Thailand-GT) 3 . It is home to about 9 3.9 million people inhabiting land areas of about 68 3.7 thousand square kilometres. Population density of IMT-GT has increased from 125 persons per square kilometre in 2012 to 13 7 persons per square kilometre in 202 2 . The IMT-GT covers a land area of 68 3.7 thousand square kilometres which accounted for 24.8 of IMT 4 in 202 2 . The IMT-GT trade in goods recorded at US$ 727 billion and contributed about 41. 2 from IMT in 2022. The IMT-GT has a combined population of 93.9 million that is equivalent to 25.0 of IMT’s population in 2022. The IMT-GT is a sparsely populated area with a population density of mere 137 persons per square kilometre. While for labour force, the IMT-GT accounted for 23.8 of IMT’s labour force. 1 Indonesia-GT consists of Aceh, Sumatera Utara, Sumatera Barat, Riau, Kepulauan Riau, Jambi, Bengkulu, Sumatera Selatan, Kepulauan Bangka Belitung, and Lampung (10 out of 34 provinces). 2 Malaysia-GT comprises of Kedah, Kelantan, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Perak, Perlis , Pulau Pinang and Selangor (8 out of 16 states). Starting from 2021, 3 states has joined IMT-GT namely Johor, Pahang and Terengganu which makes the total number of states to 11 out of 16. 3 Thailand-GT includes Chumphon, Krabi, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Narathiwat, Pattani, Phang Nga, Phattalung, Phuket, Ranong, Satun, Songkhla, Surat Thani, Trang, and Yala (14 out of 77 provinces) 4 IMT refers to the whole territory of Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand. ECONOMIC PERFORMANCE GDP AT CURRENT PRICES In 202 2 **, the IMT-GT GDP at current prices registered at US$5 64 . 8 billion and accounted for 26.2% of IMT. The GDP rate at current PPP$ is recorded at 2.0 trillion.
