Any alien who has the following qualifications may apply for permanent residence: 1. maturity under Thai law and their national law, 2. proper behavior with permanent employment, 3. residing within the Kingdom for an uninterrupted period of not less than 5 years prior to the date of applying for the permanent residence and knowledge in Thai language as prescribed by law. The above requirements may be waived for a person who has performed distinguished services to Thailand or who is a child or wife of a person who has been a permanent residence or has recovered Thai nationality or who used to hold Thai nationality. It is under the discretion of the Prime Minister, to grant or to reject any application for permanent residence. Permanent residence shall take effect upon its promulgation in the Government Gazette.
