Gender Statistics Gender statistics presented in this chapter were obtained from the Department of Provincial Administration, Ministry of Interior and Department of Disease Control, Ministry of Health and National Statistical Office. The women empowerment plan, under the 11 th Economic and Social Development plan has emphasized in constructing the equal society. To achieve this it is expecting that people should have better attitude towards society, recognize and accept women’s roles in various context, such as equality in economic, social and politics. Thai society should be moved with ethic and fairness, especially women should have equal opportunities to access to all levels of education including long - life education and appropriate potential development. Women should be supported to have life security, a better quality of life, confidence in political participation, administration and decision making in the organizations in order to drive women’s development, under the vision “Build up society with equity, ethic and fairness for women to have dignity, security and better quality of life”. At present, women have played more important and some major roles in country development. Many countries aim at equal and merit society and raising dignity of human beings so as to reduce disparity between female and male. To promote and support participation of women in decision making, which will bring equality between men and women in the society, gender statistics is presented as a tool for assessing on equal terms between men and women.
