ในปี พ.ศ. 2512 ได้กาหนดพระราชบัญญัติ วิทยาลัยเอกชน พ.ศ. 2512 เพื่อให้เหมาะสมกับสภาวะทาง สังคม อนุญาตให้เอกชนจัดตั้งสถาบันการศึกษาใน ระดับอุดมศึกษาได้ต่อมาได้มีการปรับปรุงกฎหมายว่าด้วย วิทยาลัยเอกชนตาม พ.ร.บ. 2522 และ พ.ร.บ. 2535 เฉพาะ บางมาตรา และเพื่อความเหมาะสมแก่สถานการณ์ปัจจุบันจึง ประกาศใช้พระราชบัญญัติสถาบันอุดมศึกษาเอกชน พ.ศ. 2546 และยกเลิก พ.ร.บ. สถาบันอุดมศึกษาเอกชน พ.ศ. 2522 และ พ.ร.บ. สถาบันศึกษาเอกชน(ฉบับที่2) พ.ศ. 2535 แต่สถาบันอุดมศึกษาเอกชนยังคงมี 3 ประเภท คือ มหาวิทยาลัย สถาบัน วิทยาลัย ส ถิ ติ ใ น ร ะ ดั บ อุ ด ม ศึ ก ษ า ไ ด้ จ า ก ส า นั ก ง า น คณะกรรมการอุดมศึกษาโดยได้แสดงสถานภาพของจานวน นิสิต นักศึกษา ผู้สาเร็จการศึกษา อาจารย์ และรายละเอียด อื่นๆ ทั้งนี้ไม่รวมโรงเรียนนายร้อยพระจุลจอมเกล้า โรงเรียน นายเรือ โรงเรียนนายเรืออากาศ โรงเรียนนายร้อยตารวจและ สถาบันเทคโนโลยีแห่งเอเชีย การส ารวจการอ่านหนังสือของประชากร สานักงานสถิติแห่งชาติเป็นผู้จัดท า โดยจัดท าครั้งแรก เมื่อปี พ.ศ. 2546 สารวจเฉพาะการอ่านหนังสือของประชากรที่มี อายุตั้งแต่ 6 ปีขึ้นไป และตั้งแต่ ปี 2551 ได้สารวจเพิ่มเรื่อง การอ่านหนังสือของเด็กเล็ก ( ผู้ที่มีอายุต่ากว่า 6 ปี ) เพื่อ รวบรวมข้อมูลสถิติเกี่ยวกับพฤติกรรมการอ่านหนังสือของ ประชากร สาหรับใช้พัฒนาและส่งเสริมให้ประชาชนรักการอ่าน ตลอดจนติดตามประเมินผลการด าเนินงานเรื่องดังกล่าว In 1969, the Private College Act B.E. 2512(1969) was enacted for social suitability so that the private sector can establish the institutes for higher education. Later, as a result of the revision on the Private College Law, the Private College Act B.E. 2522 (1979) was enacted as well as this Act B.E. 2535 (1992) (particularly in some articles). As for present situation suitability the Private College Act B.E. 2546 (2003) has been promulgated. Meanwhile, the Private Higher Education Act B.E. 2522 (1979) and the Private Higher Education Act (Section 2 ) B.E. 2535 (1992) were cancelled. According to this Act, the Private Higher Education Institutes are still divided into 3 types, namely universities, institutes and colleges. Statistics on higher education were obtained from Commission on Higher Education, that presented statistics data on student enrollments, graduates and teachers, etc., but excluded the Chulachomklao Royal Military Academy, Royal Navy Academy, Royal Airforce Academy, Police Academy and Asian Institute of Technology. The Survey on Reading of Population; National Statistical Office started carrying out this survey in 2003, covering only the population aged 6 years and over. Since 2008 the NSO extended the coverage to cover also the children aged below 6 years. The objectives of the survey are to obtain information regarding reading behavior of the Thai population so as to develop and promote reading behavior, as well as to monitor and evaluate of the related programs. 112 สถิติการศึกษา
