Communication Statistics
Communication statistics presented in this chapter have been derived from the CAT
Telecom Public Company Limited and the TOT Corporation Public Company Limited.
The Communications Authority of Thailand is a state enterprise under the Ministry of
Information and Communication Technology, established by the Communications Authority of
Thailand Act B.E. 2519 on February 25, 1977. It is responsible for the provision of domestic and
international postal, monetary and telecommunication services to the public, excepting domestic
telephone service which is under the responsibility of the Telephone Organization of Thailand.
As of 14 August, 2003, the Communications Authority of Thailand is tranformed their
performance of function as well as the assets and liabilities into the CAT Telecom Public Company
Limited.
The Telephone Organization of Thailand was established on February 24, 1954 and the
organization took over all the provincial telephone services from the Post and Telegraph Department
on October 1, 1961. The Metropolitan Telecommunications Area means the telephone areas in
Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani and Samut Prakan; and the Provincial Telecommunications
Area means the telephone areas in other remaining changwats
In 1999, the personal communications telephone (PCT) services has been operated for
subscribers in Metropolitan Telecommunication Area by using the same number of residence for
outdoor usage.
In 2002, the Telephone Organization of Thailand is tranformed their performance or
function as well as the assets and liabilities into the TOT Corporation Public Company Limited.
