PREFACE
The National Statistical Office of Thailand (NSO) has published this
2010
Thailand
Statistical Yearbook (Special edition)”
as a tribute to His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej on the
occasion of his birthday (December
5
,
2010
). Dedicating this publication to His Majesty is also in
recognition of his bountiful compassion for his subjects and through his multitude of development
projects and innovations to help all sectors of society to live satisfactory, quality lives. In particular, His
Majesty has promoted the concept of “Sufficiency Economy” as a guiding principle for all levels of
society, and is active in promoting occupational development for the disadvantaged, and enhancing the
quality of life for those facing hardship. Despite all these responsibilities to the nation, His Majesty also
spares time and attention to the development of national statistics of the Thai people, and has made
valuable suggestions that have been incorporated in the National Population and Housing Census which
is celebrating its
100
-year anniversary in
2010
.
This
2010
Thailand Statistical Yearbook (Special edition)
presents data on the various
Royal projects supported by His Majesty, including essential data on the economic, social and
environmental dimensions of the population as derived from the census and from other data collection
efforts of the NSO and related statistical offices. The purpose of this publication is to disseminate these
data to governmental offices, the private sector, educational institutions, and the general public, both
domestic and international. It is hoped that these data will be useful in the formulation of policy, plans,
decision-making, research, and as a reference for other applications. The contents include

with a
focus on the royal initiated projects by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
Part
2
presents a map of
Thailand, basic information about the country, and data on key indicators so that readers can gain a
better picture of the status of the country. Next,
Part
3
presents an introduction to the use of statistical
data so that users can more fully understand the source and interpretation of the data. The
information is presented in the form of statistical tables and graphs to improve understanding and
