National Statistical Office conducted the
2018 Survey on People’s Quality of Life and
Sustainability in accordance with Sufficiency
Economy Philosophy for the first time by collecting
data from 85,080 households. The survey aims to
study information on people's livelihood in various
aspects including economy, society, environment,
health, happiness, learning and culture as a way
of life and practice for general people, both in
daily life and development in various fields. In
addition, the government sector will also acquire
information on policy implementation to encourage
people to adhere to the sufficiency and sustainable
economy. The important survey results can be
summarized as follows;
Moderation
Moderation means adequacy, setting
ones’ lifes to an appropriate level, not too greedy
or too constricted, not overspending, no debt or
with debt but not affecting household survival or
income.
The survey results reveal that, when
households want to purchase something, 83.6% of
them would consider based on necessity and
usefulness rather than their desire or because of
discount.
Households with no debt repayment /
installments or households with debt repayment /
installment but without affecting household survival
accounted for 74.2%.
The results further show that 51.7% of
households had no debt.

Moreover, 30.0% of households perceived
that people in the village/ community/ neighborhood
did not have overspending or over necessity
behaviors.
Reasonableness
Reasonableness means to decide any
matter that must be rational, without emotion,
and consider the consequences that will occur
carefully.
94.9% of households thought that people
in the village/ community/ neighborhood can
solve problems, more or less, by discussion without
emotion.
