Other Social, Demographic and Related Statistics
Other social statistics presented in this chapter obtained from the Office of the
Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice, Department of Youth Observation and Protection, Ministry of
Justice and the Royal Thai Police.
Statistics on Cases
illustrated a number of civil and criminal cases which commenced of
offence as well as reported interesting crime.
Civil case means the case concerning debt, debtor, creditor and loan. Legal enforcement aims
for property.
Criminal case means the case concerning country’s peace including steal, rob, loot, raid,
plunder, embezzle and mug. In case of legal enforcement, penalties include capital punishment,
imprisonment, retaining, fine and property seizure.
Statistical data on Juvenile Cases Handled by Juvenile Observation and Protection
Centers
were compiled in order to obtain information concerning cases of family and juvenile who
were found guilty according to the
“2003
Juvenile Protection Act.
Family case means the case concerning argument over rights and duty of individual in
pursuance to civil code including legal action to enforce debtor to pay debt under loan contract or legal
action to claim for compensation of damage from a breach, etc. Objective of the legal action aims to
enforce the defendant to pay debt. It does not aim for the punishment of the defendant like
imprisonment in criminal case. Apart from such a dispute, civil case may concern law stipulating the
individuals to apply court rights for the protection of their rights. For example, petition for court order
for the indication of ownership in land under possession rights which is the case that has no dispute,
etc.
Juvenile refers to persons, aged below
18
years old, except for the ones whose maturity were
identified by marital status.
