related to investment, subject to the provisions of the law on investment promotion; transit journey;
persons in charge of the crew of a conveyance coming to port, station or area in the Kingdom; study or
observation; mass media; missionary under the concurrence of the Ministries and Departments
concerned; scientific research or training or teaching in educational institutes in the Kingdom; skilled
handicraft or a specialist; and other activities as prescribed in the Ministerial Regulation.
The alien who is allowed to take up residence in the Kingdom must apply for a Residence
Certificate from the Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police or from an officer desinated by the
Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police within
30
days from the date receiving written
notification from a designated officer.
The Alien, aged under
12
years, only parents or desinated family member must apply to get
Residence Certificate on his/her behalf.
Any alien who has the following qualifications may apply for permanent residence:
1.
maturity under Thai law and their national law,
2.
proper behavior with permanent employment,
3.
residing within the Kingdom for an uninterrupted period of not less than
5
years prior to
the date of applying for the permanent residence and knowledge in Thai language as prescribed by law.
The above requirements may be waived for a person who has performed distinguished services to
Thailand or who is a child or wife of a person who has been a permanent residence or has recovered
Thai nationality or who used to hold Thai nationality.
It is under the discretion of the Prime Minister, to grant or to reject any application for
permanent residence. Permanent residence shall take effect upon its promulgation in the Government
Gazette.
