Other Social
Other social statistics is a kind of
social indicator presenting the issues
regarding the quality of life of the Thai
population, including social problems
which need to be solved and developed.
7.1 Pawn Statistics
Public pawnshop is the agency which
provides an access to financial service with
low interest rate. Public pawn service is an
easy way for the people to get access to the
financial service as there is less process
compared to the commercial banks and with
lower interest rate compared to private
pawnshop (public pawnshop interest rate is
ranging from 0.25-1.25% per month while
private pawnshop is about 0.5-2.0%).
Statistics on pawn operation showed
that in the past 3 years, number of pawners
continuously. In 2014, there were about
1.18 million persons, increased to 1.21
million persons in 2016.
Most of items pawned during 2012-
2016 were gold, diamond and jewelry
(more than 97.37%), followed by electronics
appliances, mobile phone and camera etc.
By occupation, about 85.31% of the
pawners were general labourer, household
head of about 8.09%. Agriculture and state
enterprise officer used pawn service with the
least proportion.
