Thailand
Thailand is situated in the Southeast
Asia. She borders the Lao People’s Democratic
Republic and the Kingdom of Cambodia to the east,
the Gulf of Thailand and Malaysia to the south, the
Andaman sea and the Union of Myanmar to the west,
and the Lao People’s Democratic Republic and the
Union of Myanmar to the north. Thailand spreads out
over
513,119
square kilometers. The population in Thailand is approximately
62.4
million. The Baht
is the standard currency unit. Thailand’s national flag called in Thai
the “Trirong”, first introducted by
King Vajiravudh (Rama VI). With regard to the meaning of Trirong flag, the outer bands of red
symbolize the nation and the unity of nation. The inner bands of white symbolize the religion as a
tool for bring the mental self being the innocent perception and the blue bands symbolize the
monarchy.
Politics and government
Thailand is a democracy country. Present, His Majesty King Bhumibol of Thailand is on the
throne, with a constitutional monarchy, and His Majesty is the longest-reigning monarch in the
world. The power of government is composed of three institutions, namely the institutions of the
National Assembly, Council of Ministers and Courts. The Prime Minister is the header of cabinet,
holding the position for four years, and the Senator holding the position for six years. The National
Assembly of Thailand is a bi-cameral institution consisting of the House of Representatives and the
Senate. The institution of Courts is the Courts of justice.
The administrative organization is composed of the provincial administration as divided into
75
provinces and the local administration as organized in Bangkok, which is the capital of Thailand,
in terms of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration(BMA).
