Chapter 5
Social Welfare
Social protection in Thailand has
been developed continuously for the past
years according to the rapid country’s
development. Basic social protection for
the people has been set and kept
changing the patterns so as to fit with the
complex issues caused by economic
growth and social changes. Also, the
private sectors and communities have
recognized and participated in the society
commitment by providing some forms of
social welfare to the communities.
However, social protection under the
responsibility of the Ministry of Social
Development and Human Security
(MSDHS) in providing social welfare to
cover all population throughout the
country to have better quality of life and
self-reliance are still not covering
thoroughly all targeted groups of people,
due to the budget limitation.
The National Statistical Office has
gathered information only part of social
welfare, which may reflect, to some
extent the status of social welfare
practicing currently.
