1.1 Population
1.1.1 Number and Growth Rate of Population
A number of population of the
country is regarded as a crucial factor for
planning in resource allocation and
infrastructure. Therefore accurate and up to
date population statistics/indicators are
needed for country’s administration in
economic, social and environment.
In Thailand, there are many sources
of data on population, which users could
consider to use any sources to match with
their objectives. One among the other
sources is the population censuses
conducted by the NSO every 10 years. The
latest census was the 2010 Population and
Housing Census, which collected data from
all population residing in Thailand as of the
census date; September 1, 2010. The results
of the latest census showed that there were
65.9 million people in Thailand, which
increased from 60.9 million from the 2000
Census. This figure presented about 0.7%
growth rate per year (2000-2010), which was
a decreasing growth rate compared to 1.1%
of the past censuses (1990-2000).
Population data, from the Bureau of
Registration Administration, Ministry of Interior,
which were the number of population
registered in household registration system on
annual basis, showed that the number of
population increased from 64.7 million in
2013 to 65.1 million in 2014, with about 0.5%
population growth rate per year.
